Abstract

Students' understanding of geography material in Social Sciences (IPS) learning is often still low, this is due to theilack ofiinteresting learning media and is only contextual. At the stage of delivering abstract geography material, high visualization is needed so that innovative approaches can be understood optimally. This study aims to determine how the application of Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media can improve students' understanding of geography material at MTs Negeri 1 Labuhanbatu. The methodology used in this study is to use qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observations, and documentation. This technique is used to collect data from teachers and grade VIII students. The results of the study show that the use of AR is able to create a more interactive, interesting, and easy-to-understand learning atmosphere, especially in visualizing abstract geography concepts. AR facilitates students to seeithree-dimensionalirepresentations of the earth'si surface, geographic distribution patterns, and other natural phenomena directly through digital devices. The application of AR media can improve cognitive understanding and is also able to build skillsi that are relevant to modern life, isuch as icritical ithinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Students show active involvement in learning, have higher learning motivation, and are able to analyze and interpret geographic objects more deeply.
